NEWS: Yoruba elders reject Jonathan’s endorsement

The Yoruba Council of Elders (YCE) has dissociated itself from recent endorsement of President Goodluck Jonathan in the  February 14 presidential election by another Yoruba political cum cultural group, Afenifere, reports @XONEBLOG.

YCE, which is also known as’ Igbimo Agba Yoruba’, made the declaration after its national executive committee met at its office in Ibadan, Oyo State on Thursday.

The meeting, presided over by Major General Adeyinka Adebayo (rtd), described YCE as apolitical, saying Afenifere is a political party.

Prof. Bayo Olateju, YCE spokesman, who read out the group’s communique at the end of the meeting, said the presidency should go to the best candidate who has the vision and mission of taking Nigeria and Nigerians from poverty to wealth.

The group noted that as respectable elders of Yoruba, they believed that caution should be taken on the issue of endorsement.
