Jonathan seeks divine intervention to rescue Borno

President Goodluck Jonathan has hailed the members of the armed forces their services to defend the nation from terrorists and other threats.
This follows his visit to Maiduguri, the Borno State capital on Thursday.

The city has been the hardest hit by the onslaught by the Islamic militant Boko haram sect.

"Yesterday, I visited Maiduguri to meet with members of the armed forces serving there as well as the civilian population of the city. These great men and women are Nigeria's heroes. They are fighting to defend our nation from terrorists and other threats and we must do all within our powers to show appreciation for their services to Nigeria in tangible ways,” Jonathan said.

His visit coincided with the Armed Forces Day, also known as the Remembrance Day. The commemoration, which is done annually on January 25, this year came on the back of the Boko Haram sect intensifying its onslaught on civilians with more than 2 000 killed this month alone.

Jonathan asked for divine intervention amid the armed forces battling the terrorists.

“May God bless our efforts to return normalcy to Maiduguri and other towns affected by the insurgency and may God bless Nigeria,” he said.
