150 insurgents killed in Damaturu raid in Yobe

Health workers and security sources have revealed that over 220 people including insurgents were killed in Monday’s attack by Boko Haram insurgents in Damaturu, Yobe State, Daily Trust reports.

It was disclosed that 150 militants, six soldiers, and 33 policemen, among them the Yobe State police spokesman, Nansel Chagwang, was killed in the attack with the intent of taking over the government house in the state capital.

Workers from the state Ministry of Environment, NEMA and the Red Cross were sighted picking up bodies from the streets to be deposited in the mortuary.


The state government imposed a 24-hour curfew in the state capital in a move to curb the activities of the terrorists and as part of measures to enable the security agents who on Monday repelled insurgent attacks on the town, to conclude their ongoing assignment.

The Boko Haram militants launched a dawn raid on Monday morning in Damaturu, and attacked a number of security formations and public building
